Amanda Van Scoyoc, Ph.D.

Dr. Van Scoyoc specializes in providing evidence-based assessment and therapy services for children and adolescents impacted by a wide array of challenges including anxiety, depression, grief, traumatic reactions, family conflict, and family transitions. In addition to providing therapeutic services, she also is actively engaged in research with Yale Child Study Center, where she completed her psychology fellowship training. Her therapeutic work and research focus on supporting children in reaching their full potential.

During initial therapy sessions, Dr. Van Scoyoc works with a child and that child’s family to fully understand current challenges and to develop goals for therapy. She believes in the importance of a strong initial assessment and subsequently using the best established and most effective techniques to seek optimal outcomes. Frequently her therapeutic approach is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and helps patients learn to identify new ways of approaching challenging situations and negative thoughts to decrease mental health challenges, increase personal accomplishment, and develop an overall sense of well-being. As family plays an absolutely essential role in child and adolescent development, she works alongside both children and their families and engages parents in therapy regularly so that they can support their children through the process of change. Her greatest joy as a therapist is witnessing children and adolescents reach their true potential while gaining mastery over past challenges.
